U12 Boys 0-0 Strand Celtic (BUFC Astro)

On a very calm dry morning in Ballisodare we kicked off the season against a strong stubborn Strand side. As in preseason our lads kept their shape very well and passed the ball with precision. We dominated the first 15-20 mins with plenty of good play down the wings from Conor Fallon and Oran Hynes providing some absolute gems of crosses going into the Strand box but we just couldn’t finish them off. As the half was going on we were getting stronger and looked more likely to score, Caolon Feeney coming so close on two occasions from distance. A fingernail was the difference of the ball resting into the net.

As play went on we got comfortable passing but we were caught out with a ball over the top to leave the Strand striker 1v1 with our keeper, but Ryan Fallon came up trumps with a game saving save.

U15 Girls 2-6 Calry Bohs (Hazelwood)

Our u15 girls put in a very brave performance playing with 10 players they gave it their absolute all until the final minute.

Nadja Garvey did all she could in goals in the first half and did not let the Calry domination deter her when she moved to centre half for the second half and ably assisted by Eabha Brady, captain for the day, Ella White, unbelievable performance on her first appearance for the club and Lydia Kruszynska who all put in warrior like displays of defending.

Another debutant, Lucie Cawley, we actually thought Lucie must be a twin as she was EVERYWHERE, covered every blade of grass and was assisted by the bravery of Rebecca Sherlock, and the versatility of Caoimhe Gethins and Kate Fallon who interchanged roles seamlessly.

Leah Mc Donagh who was heroic was virtually a spectator for the 2nd half and it was he save in the 42nd minute that spurred the girls on to find their 2nd, 3rd and 4th wind and they got their just rewards on the 49th minute when a moved involving every player landed at the feet of goal machine Natalie Corrigan Wimsey, and in these situations there is only one outcome...GOAAAAAAL and what a finish it was. Natalia went close again, Lucie went close, Kate went close and then Natalia bamboozled the Calry defence and with a "Messiesque" finish chipped the home keeper for a second time leading to wild celebrations with he teammates.

At one stage we were playing with 9 and the opposition management did not even realise which says a lot about how the girls applied themselves. Playing with a smile.

U16 Boys 3-4 Carrick Town (BUFC Astro)

Under 16s lost 4-3 to Carrick Town right at the death. We went one down against the run of play but did well to get it back through a Jayden Gilgan penalty. We then turned the game on its head and went 2-1 up through a perfectly placed header from Brandon Meehan from a set piece. We then went 3-1 up from a beautifully struck free kick from Daniel Toolan. We just seemed to run out of steam and all of a sudden it was 3-3 and Carrick won it at the death. On another day a draw would have been a fair result.

U13 Girls 2-1 St. Johns (BUFC Astro)

On a blistering day in Ballisodare the U13 girls only had one thing on their mind as they took on St. Johns and that was to win. The Ballisodare girls led by Captian Riona started the game the stronger team.

From the goalie Fay to the back line of Holly, Crystal, Megan and the outstanding Ava they were going to make sure to keep St.Johns at bay. Even when the pressure was applied by St. Johns they never crumbled. The midfield line of Tara, Riona, Maggie & Blaithin clock up the miles from helping the back and moving the ball swiftly up in to the forward line.

The forwards of Kristina & Sophie had several attempts at goals but unfortunately couldn't find the back of the net. Due to fantastic one two passes from the girls it allowed Bliathin the break she required to put the ball in the net twice for Ballisodare. Despite St. Johns pulling a goal back the BUFC girls resisted St. Johns late pressure and could have added to the scoreline.

U-14 Boys 2-5 KEUFC (BUFC Astro)

The lads played very well and were the better side for large spells it was not a 5-2 game but unfortunately if you don't take your chances and allow the opposition to get 5 these things happen. Both our goals scored today by Daniel Connolly with Leon Egan having one very dubiously disallowed at a key moment in the match.

BUFC Senior 4-1 Valley Rovers (BUFC Astro)

Good start to the season for Ballisodare United with a 4-1 win at home to a young and energetic Valley Rovers team.

A close first half battle saw very few chances from either side and the important breakthrough came for Ballisodare when Keith Cotter drilled a low hard shot to the corner of the net after 45 minutes.

Ballisodare started the second half quickly and doubled their lead from the penalty spot. Darragh Healy was fouled in the area and he stepped up to send Valley keeper Dylan Easterbrook the wrong way after 59 minutes.

The lead was 3-0 soon after when Gary Anderson crossed for Adam Grace to head home in the 62nd minute.

Ballisodare substitute Shane Kerr made it 4-0 after more good work from Gary Anderson. Shane ran onto a through pass and finished low and hard to the keepers right.

Valley kept battling and got a consolation goal in the 89th minute. A Jake Tobin cross was met by Radek Oberwan to give the away side a positive end to the game.

THANKS TO ALL THE PLAYERS, COACHES, PARENTS, GUARDIANS AND COMMITTEE FOR CONTRIBUTING TO A GREAT WEEKEND OF SPORT
