U12 Boys Subway SFAI Cup - Ballyboro F.C. (Longford) 4-5 BUFC (AWAY) (WIN)

A proper humdinger cup tie in Lanesborough this afternoon folks!

In woeful weather conditions, a gutsy battling performance laced with terrific skill & determination won this 'muck & bullets' battle in the Midlands.

Three fantastic goals by our set-piece specialists Orán Hynes & Conor Fallon lit up the first half - two directly from left & right sided in swinging corner routines straight off the training pitch plus an unstoppable direct free kick from Hynes over the wall and into the roof of the net.

Bobby Cavanagh was on hand just before half time to force an own goal and bury a chance of his own to put us 5-3 up after Ballyboro had twice taken the lead early on while we adjusted to the conditions

The squad depth was tested in the second half as we adapted our shape to defend our lead and the tackle & block count was off the scale as Caolon Feeney, Teddy Healion, Calum Clarke and Evan Lougheed formed a rock solid back four which was protected relentlessly by a hard working midfield press from Stephen Gillespie, Samuel Oyewusi, Jason,Scanlon & Wesley Elliott.

The 2nd half clean sheet we asked the lads for looked on the cards until a well taken individual goal by the home side made it 5-4 as we entered the last five minutes but our lads did not panic and team captain Ryan Fallon managed the game to a close with a very assured performance in goal, yet somehow the referee seemed to find seemingly endless injury time from somewhere and it took a brave headed clearance in the six yard box by Kyran Gethins in the last few seconds to ensure we went through to the next round! 🔴⚪⚽

These honest lads just never give up and fought like brothers today - their families can also be very proud of the courtesy shown by them during the excellent post match hospitality put on by Ballyboro F.C.

Forza BUFC 🔴⚪⚽

In the Sligo Bay Lobster's Womens League our Senior Ladies were defeated by Arrow Harps on a score line of 6-0 at Mac Sharry Park on Saturday afternoon. Two early penalties for the Harps, from Orla Devaney and Simone Moss along with the elements took the wind out of the ladies sails.

Arrow added two more before the break from the impressive Ciara Gilligan and two of the best goals you will see in local football, early in the second half, from Simone Moss, with and exquisite lob and a perfectly placed shot into the roof of the net from Mia O'Regan put Arrow out of sight, To be fair to our ladies they kept going and our keeper, Joanne Mc Cabe, who kept the score down in the first half with some brilliant saves, had nothing to do for the remainder of the game as the ladies tried hard but could not breach the resolute Arrow rear-guard.

Our U16 team walkover v Corrib from Galway and advance to the next round of the SFAI Subway Boys U16 Cup.

Our U-14 Boys were beaten by Merville 3-1 after going in 1 up at half time. The in form Daniel Connolly with our goal.

Tommy Kings pace caused Merville all sorts of trouble and was dubiously called offside on 3 different occasions when he was through 1 v 1. The result does not reflect the lads performance or work rate. Philip McManus made a great save from the penalty spot also.

On Saturday evening our Senior Team made a welcome return to winning ways in the Sligo Pallets Premier League v Benbulben FC.

Two early goals from Adam Grace won this home game for Ballisodare United.  The first came when Darragh Mahon played through Adam and he finished well on 13 minutes.

A quick fire second goal for BUFC on 17 minutes when Niall Hahessy played a wonderful long ball behind the Benbulben defence and again Adam made no mistake slotting past Aaron Kenny with a delicious lob.

In a second half of few chances Ballisodare stayed compact. Keeper Gavin Phelan and his defence will be happy with their performance and clean sheet. Meanwhile Darragh Mahon was a constant threat on the left, James McGovern played very well in front of the defence and captain Stephen Fallon gave energy in the middle of the park. Next up is a home game v Calry Bohs Reserves on Saturday evening time tbc.
