Spectators were treated to an eight goal thriller this afternoon at Ballisodare United Astro where our U12 White Team battled to a share of the spoils against a determined Dromahair F.C. outfit.
Both sides had chances early on but it was BUFC striker AJ McDonagh who broke the deadlock on 10 minutes with a composed finish after some neat interplay in midfield.
The lead was doubled on 20 minutes by Kyran Gethins from close range before Dromahair sprung our off side trap to pull one back on 27mins.
A.J. got his second on the stroke of half time to restore the two goal lead at the break as the home side began to dominate.
The full depth of the squad was tested in the 2nd half with six substitutes introduced at the break for this pre-season friendly.
Dromahair pulled a goal back almost immediately as we took some time to find our shape and after 15mins it was 3-3 when another ball over the top caught us flat footed.
The lads pressed hard for a 4th goal and hit the bar with a piledriver from Conor Crossan and the right hand post kept the teams level going into the last 10 minutes.
Kyran got his 2nd with a dinked finish over the keeper in one of many one-on-one opportunities in the closing minutes before the Leitrim outfit scored a deserved equalising goal after a driving run by their captain at the end of a pulsating encounter.
Manager Kevin Gillespie expressed his satisfaction with the performance and determination of the entire squad and is already looking forward to a re-match with Dromahair FC in Group B of the U12 League this season.
Kevin also thanked all of the many parents and relatives of the team who came out to support today - it is much appreciated and you can be very proud of your boys for their 100% effort today.
Training continues on Monday and Wednesday this week for the U12 Red and White Squads ahead of the season openers versus Strand Celtic and Valley Rovers respectively next month.
